LIVING SCHOOL
Living School (Lebendige Schule: Das Archiv Lebt) invites communities to reclaim, share, and activate their own knowledge, memories and stories at Altes Finanzamt. Through peer-to-peer learning, embodied practices, and collective experimentation, we bring people together across different experiences to build connection, solidarity, and knowledge.Â

Lebendige Schule: Das Archiv Lebt // The Living School: the archive is alive, our first workshop series running from September 2026 to January 2027, is a space to experiment with how the division between subjects is political, and how solidarity grows through encounter, with each other and with the city we share.
The Altes Finanzamt building was a structure once dedicated to classification, regulation, and the administrative ordering of lives. The building holds a symbolic weight: it represents the bureaucratic logic through which people were reduced to files, numbers, and legible identities.
Altes Finanzamt collective has already begun transforming the building into a vibrant artist community through workshops, reading groups and hosting other artists’ events. Living School proposes the transformation of our building into a living, speculative archive, in collaboration with participants from the local community. From its basement floor, alongside participants, we will reimagine the building not as a site of control, but as a space of creative resistance, memory-making, and alternative knowledge production.
How can we collect and share our stories, memories, knowledge, and experiences?
Participants will enter the Altes Finanzamt not as passive learners, but as researchers, storytellers, and collaborators. Through oral history, autoethnography, and creative practice, they will “activate” the building, treating it as a site where suppressed or unrecorded histories can be imagined, reconstructed, and expressed.
The aim is to make the site more public, accessible, and collectively shaped, enriched by the intersections of the communities connected to it.
Importantly, this archive will not be static. It will be living and continuously growing, shaped by each participant who contributes to it. Rather than organizing knowledge through rigid categories or divisions, the project foregrounds connection: we are not divided by land, borders, or classifications, but brought together through personal narratives that allow us to transcend these boundaries.
The project draws on queer-decolonial and interdisciplinary methodologies, combining artistic research, somatic practice, political education, and collective experimentation.
Topics are approached not as fixed disciplines, but as interconnected fields emerging through embodied practice and collaboration.
Workshops combine theory and practice through movement, reading groups, artistic exercises, writing, discussion, and collaborative production. Knowledge is understood as arising from lived experience and collective exchange rather than hierarchy.
The classes are not separate units; they leak into and feed each other, interwoven with the intent to shape a living archive of hacking tools and feminist practices for daily life.
By the end of the program, Altes Finanzamt will hold a participant-generated archive of alternative histories and futures, one that continues to grow beyond the school's duration.

🔧PRACTICALÂ
The school runs 12 workshops and 2 guest-speaker events, roughly every two weeks. It will start with a Vernissage, and it will close with a Finnisage to showcase our work at the end of January.
The classes are free for the participants upon registration. We'd love for the participants to join as many as possible, ideally the full program.
Most of the classes will happen at Altes Finanzamt, and some at the Community Garden in the Bulgarischen Kirchhoff. After class there is the option to go to Casino for Social Medicine to enjoy a tea together.
During the weekdays, most of the classes will run from 18 to 21~

Lebendige Schule: Das Archiv Lebt // The Living School: the archive is alive, unsere erste Workshopreihe von September 2026 bis Januar 2027, ist ein Raum, um damit zu experimentieren, wie die Trennung zwischen Fächern politisch ist, und wie Solidarität wächst, durch Begegnung, miteinander und mit der Stadt, die wir teilen.
Das Gebäude des Alten Finanzamts war einst der Klassifizierung, Regulierung und administrativen Ordnung von Leben gewidmet. Das Gebäude trägt ein symbolisches Gewicht: Es steht für jene bürokratische Logik, durch die Menschen zu Akten, Nummern und lesbaren Identitäten reduziert wurden.
Das Altes Finanzamt Kollektiv hat bereits damit begonnen, das Gebäude durch Workshops, Lesegruppen und die Ausrichtung von Veranstaltungen anderer Künstler:innen in eine lebendige Künstlergemeinschaft zu verwandeln. Living School schlägt vor, unser Gebäude in Zusammenarbeit mit Teilnehmenden aus der lokalen Gemeinschaft in ein lebendiges, spekulatives Archiv zu verwandeln. Von seinem Kellergeschoss aus werden wir, gemeinsam mit den Teilnehmenden, das Gebäude neu denken, nicht als Ort der Kontrolle, sondern als Raum kreativen Widerstands, der Erinnerungsarbeit und alternativer Wissensproduktion.
Wie können wir unsere Geschichten, Erinnerungen, unser Wissen und unsere Erfahrungen sammeln und teilen?
Die Teilnehmenden betreten das Alte Finanzamt nicht als passive Lernende, sondern als Forschende, Erzählende und Mitgestaltende. Durch Oral History, Autoethnografie und kreative Praxis werden sie das Gebäude „aktivieren“, es als einen Ort behandeln, an dem unterdrückte oder nicht aufgezeichnete Geschichten imaginiert, rekonstruiert und ausgedrückt werden können.
Ziel ist es, den Ort öffentlicher, zugänglicher und kollektiver zu gestalten, bereichert durch die Schnittstellen der mit ihm verbundenen Gemeinschaften.
Wichtig ist: Dieses Archiv wird nicht statisch sein. Es wird lebendig und stetig wachsend sein, geformt von jeder Person, die daran mitwirkt. Statt Wissen durch starre Kategorien oder Trennungen zu ordnen, stellt das Projekt Verbindung in den Vordergrund: Wir sind nicht getrennt durch Land, Grenzen oder Klassifizierungen, sondern zusammengebracht durch persönliche Erzählungen, die es uns erlauben, diese Grenzen zu überschreiten.

Das Projekt schöpft aus queer-dekolonialen und interdisziplinären Methodologien und verbindet künstlerische Forschung, somatische Praxis, politische Bildung und kollektives Experimentieren.
Themen werden nicht als feste Disziplinen behandelt, sondern als miteinander verbundene Felder, die durch verkörperte Praxis und Zusammenarbeit entstehen.
Die Workshops verbinden Theorie und Praxis durch Bewegung, Lesegruppen, kĂĽnstlerische Ăśbungen, Schreiben, Diskussion und gemeinsame Produktion. Wissen wird verstanden als etwas, das aus gelebter Erfahrung und kollektivem Austausch entsteht, nicht aus Hierarchie.
Die Klassen sind keine getrennten Einheiten; sie sickern ineinander und nähren sich gegenseitig, verwoben mit der Absicht, ein lebendiges Archiv von Hacking-Tools und feministischen Praktiken für den Alltag zu formen.
Am Ende des Programms wird das Altes Finanzamt ein von Teilnehmenden geschaffenes Archiv alternativer Geschichten und Zukünfte beherbergen, eines, das über die Dauer der Schule hinaus weiterwächst.
🔧PRAKTISCHES
Die Schule umfasst 12 Workshops und 2 Gastredner:innen-Events, etwa alle zwei Wochen. Sie beginnt mit einer Vernissage und schließt mit einer Finissage, um unsere Arbeit Ende Januar zu präsentieren.
Die Klassen sind für die Teilnehmenden nach Anmeldung kostenlos. Wir würden uns freuen, wenn die Teilnehmenden an möglichst vielen teilnehmen, idealerweise am gesamten Programm.
Die meisten Klassen finden im Alten Finanzamt statt, einige im Gemeinschaftsgarten am Bulgarischen Kirchhof. Nach dem Unterricht besteht die Möglichkeit, gemeinsam einen Tee im Casino for Social Medicine zu genießen.
Unter der Woche laufen die meisten Klassen von 18 bis 21 Uhr~
Am Wochenende: 15-19 Uhr~
